👋 Welcome to Improv in Practice
Hey, I’m Dan, and I’ve been teaching and performing improv since 2016.
Improv in Practice is where I share simple, actionable advice to help you get out of your head, break free from overthinking, and truly start playing in the moment — both in class and on stage.
You’ll find thoughts on topics like:
Making Things Active (Don’t talk about the thing — do the thing. Action over explanation. It’s easier, and way more fun to play.)
Playing with Wants (Give your character something to pursue — and let that pursuit shape the scene.)
Honest Reactions (React truthfully in the moment. Let your instincts lead instead of relying on a pre-planned character or idea.)
Some posts will be short. Others will dig a bit deeper. But all of them will come from real-world experiences I’ve had teaching, performing, and coaching indie teams over the years.
If you’re an improviser, performer, or student — you’re in the right place.
Thanks for reading — more to come soon!
— Dan
